The principle
The Lord gives us wisdom to help us follow His path.
What the lesson is for
Help students identify truths in Proverbs that would make them more like the Savior, and take one real decision to the Lord before taking it anywhere else.
Personal study, first ten minutes
Proverbs 1:1–7 and 2:1–9
What does the book say it is for? And where does it say wisdom comes from — mark it. Note that a buckler (2:7) is a small shield carried in the hand.

Teacher notes
Supplies, board work and timing. Never printed on the cards.
SUPPLIES: small slips of paper and pens for the advice activity, plus paper and art supplies for the poster (phones work too). First class back after Labor Day — expect a slow start. Student prep was to bring one piece of advice they have been given: collect the slips first thing, read a few aloud, and let the writer say how it helped. "The fear of the Lord" (1:7) means reverence and respect, not being afraid — have them write that in the margin. Cross-reference Proverbs 2:6–9 with Mosiah 4:9. DO NOT spend Proverbs 3 today — tomorrow is Lesson 110 on Proverbs 3, and 3:5–6 is a Doctrinal Mastery passage that should land fresh.

The last five minutes. Card 3 hands into this.
Pick one proverb from today. Write the truth it teaches in your own words, then write how living it would make you more like Jesus Christ. Finish by naming one decision you are facing this week, and when you will pray about it before you decide.
